After leaving the NHL for Russia and Switzerland, Alex Kovalev has once again landed back in the eastern conference. Earlier today, the 39-year-old signed a one-year-deal for $1 million with the Florida Panthers after attending their camp on a tryout basis. Kovalev joins a Panthers team that surprised many last season by winning their first ever division crown before being eliminated by the New Jersey Devils in the first round.

The Tolyatti native joins his fifth NHL club for what will be his 19th season in the league having spent time with the New York Rangers(twice), Pittsburgh Penguins(twice), Montreal Canadiens, and Ottawa Senators. In 1302 games, Kovalev has 428 goals and 596 assists for 1,024 career points. He could be a perfect veteran leader to go alongside Ed Jovanovski and Jose Theodore.
