A busy weekend of NHL action saw many Russians on the ice or between the pipes. One however stood above the rest as he lead his team to glory, he of course is no other than Artem Anisimov. The 24-year-old center put on quite the show for the Blue Jackets as be scored two beautiful goals against the Red Wings on Saturday night. Coming off two straight losses, the Blue Jackets wanted to show their fans they can contend at home having picked up just one win in four attempts.
With the game tied at one in the second period, the man affectionately nicknamed “Artie” took the game into his hands by notching two quality goals en route to a 4-2 win. Anisimov first picked up a loose puck and fired it past Jimmy Howard, sending his gatorade bottle flying off the net. For an encore, he would would razzle past Howard switching from forehand to bachkand for his first multi-goal game since Nov. 11, 2010 when he was a member of the Rangers.
His goals made him the leading scorer for the Blue Jackets as they try to go for their first win streak of the season tomorrow night against the Kings.
Elsewhere around the league, Nail Yakupov scored his 5th goal of the year tying him with Vladimir Tarasenko for most goals amongst Russians. A super match-up on “Super Sunday” between Pittsburgh and Washington saw Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin contribute in the assists category with Geno doubling Ovi’s one assist in a 6-3 win.
